Yigo is the northern most village on Guam. It is the largest in geographical setting on island and the second largest in population. Yigo has the highest mountain in the northern part of the island called Mount Santa Rosa.
Yigo is a fast-growing community made evident by the continued construction of businesses and residential buildings. Yigo is home to the Anderson Air Force Base and neighboring proposed U.S. Marine Corps Base on the northeast side of the village.
The rich, fertile soil found in the northern village once produced an abundance of coffee, cocoa, pineapple, oranges and tangerines before the war. Chocolate was also produced and transported to serve to visitors in the old Governor’s palace known as the Chocolate House.
Ifit wood trees grow in abundance in the jungles of the village. It has been used to produce artwork carved from the ifit by Chamorro master carver Robert Taitano.
There are several public, private and DODEA schools in Yigo.
You will find various religious communities, inclusive of Catholic, Christian, Lutheran, and Baptist to name a few. Our Lady of Lourdes fiesta is held the second Saturday of February and the Feast of Santa Bernadita is celebrated on the weekend of April 16.
For recreation, there are numerous sports activities held on a regular basis in the village such as basketball and softball tournaments. Yigo is home to The Hatusho Golf Course and Guam Raceway Park located just off of Route 15.
