The village of Hagåtña, formerly known as Agana, is the capital of Guam. The village hosts the executive, legislative and judicial branches of the island’s government. The Agana Shopping Center is located in the village.
Hagåtña also offers significant historical value. Remnants of the Spanish colonization of Guam and a number of other historical monuments can be viewed at Plaza de Espana and other sites throughout the village. The Dulce Numbre de Maria Basilica, the oldest Church in Guam is located adjacent to the Plaza de Espana. You will find the pre-Spanish stone pillars, known as Latte Stones, at the Latte Stone Park. The Guam Museum is located within the Governor Skinner Park.
Hagåtña is very popular on Wednesday nights as host to a very vibrant night market hosted at Chamorro Village, located within the Plaza De Susanna Park. Enjoy, relax and mingle with the locals and tourists as you sample all the local delicacies, learn a step or two of cha-cha or just sit back and listen to island music as everyone dances the night away.
